The Rebels roll in to the Plains to take on Auburn at 6PM Saturday evening. The game will be televised on ESPNU. Ole Miss is 2-5 and 0-4 in the SEC while Auburn is 5-3 and 3-2 respectively. Most of you have probably already heard Gene Chizik’s quote that Ole Miss is, “the best 2-5 team in the country.” I’m sure the Rebels really appreciated that compliment! The Rebels do have a very big task in front of them if they want to escape Jordan-Hare Stadium with a win tonigh. Auburn has been ranked as high as #15 this year. The Auburn running attack is led by Michael Dyer who is only 188 yards shy of 1000 this year. For the Rebels, Brandon Bolden continues his ascent up the all time Ole Miss rushing and all-purpose yards leaderboards.
Looking at the vital stat comparison between the Rebels and Tigers, they are much closer than you would think. Both defenses have struggled with Ole Miss giving up an average of 29 points a game while Auburn is giving up 28 points a week. Both teams bring a pretty balance offensive attack even though the Tigers average over 75 yards more per game than the Rebels. 8 Rebel Freshmen (5 True Freshmen and 3 Red-Shirts) have gotten a start this season. The Rebels are definitely young, but they are gaining valuable experience and have actually started playing much better over the past few weeks.
Even though the Rebels may be the best 2-5 team in the country and their youngsters are starting to play much better, I think it is a stretch to think that the Rebels will walk away from Jordan-Hare with an upset victory tonight.
My prediction: Auburn wins 28-14
